The Government of Nepal has collected more than Rs 770 million in mountaineering royalties during the spring climbing season of 2025, according to the Department of Tourism.
The Department’s Mountaineering Division reported on Sunday that a total of Rs 773,587,915 has been collected so far. Of that amount, Rs 676,092,028 was generated from Mount Everest expeditions alone, reaffirming its popularity among climbers worldwide.
A total of 1,127 climbers-including 240 women and 887 men-from 119 expeditions have received climbing permits for 26 mountain peaks, including the world’s highest, Mount Everest.
Mount Everest saw the highest number of climbers this season, with 456 individuals (84 women and 372 men) from 45 expeditions obtaining permits. Climbers from 57 different countries are participating in Everest ascents this spring.
Other notable peaks attracting expeditions this season include:
Mt Ama Dablam: 102 climbers (10 expeditions)
Mt Lhotse: 107 climbers (9 expeditions)
Mt Makalu: 79 climbers (8 expeditions)
Mt Kanchenjunga: 75 climbers (7 expeditions)
Mt Nuptse: 76 climbers (6 expeditions)
Mt Annapurna: 66 climbers (6 expeditions)
Liladhar Awasthi, Director at the Department of Tourism, stated that the spring season continues to be the most favorable for mountaineering in Nepal due to relatively stable weather conditions.
He also noted that climbing permits are still being issued, and the total number of climbers and royalty collections is expected to rise in the coming days.
