  • Bhaktapur Hospital Declared 'Best Hospital' in Nepal

Bhaktapur Hospital has been officially recognized as the best hospital in Nepal, according to the latest Minimum Service Standard (MSS) assessment conducted across the country.

The announcement was made during a special program held on Sunday at Bhaktapur Hospital. The 121-year-old hospital secured 90 out of 100 points, placing it first among all hospitals nationwide based on service quality, infrastructure, and performance indicators.

Speaking at the event, Bagmati Province Minister for Health, Kiran Thapa, praised the hospital for achieving the top rank for the fourth consecutive time. He emphasized the importance of continued dedication from the hospital staff to maintain and further enhance the quality of services.

“The provincial government has allocated Rs 10 million to begin neuro services at Bhaktapur Hospital,” said Minister Thapa. “In addition, dialysis services will be launched within a month, and budget allocation has been planned for the renovation of the hospital’s old building in the upcoming fiscal year.”

Health Secretary of Bagmati Province, Dr. Sumitra Gautam, highlighted the hospital’s historical significance, noting that it is the second-oldest hospital in the country, and credited its consistent top ranking to the commitment of its staff, the support of its management committee, and protection from undue influences.

“This success sets an example for other hospitals—demonstrating that quality service is possible with strong leadership and integrity,” she added.

    According to the evaluation results:

Lumbini Provincial Hospital secured second place nationally with 89 points

Bharatpur Hospital ranked third with 88 points

    Within Bagmati Province:

Dhading Hospital scored 82 points, placing second

Trishuli Hospital followed closely with 81 points, ranking third

These assessments were carried out by a dedicated evaluation team, including Dr. Phanindra Prasad Baral of Bir Hospital.

Providing an overview of the hospital's performance, Bhaktapur Hospital Director Surendra Prasad Bhatta stated that there has been a noticeable increase in the number of patients across outpatient, inpatient, surgical, and maternity services this year compared to previous years.
